Enhanced Curriculum
Social Work/Family Support Services: The school social workers provide families with community resources that can give the family practical information for day-to-day living. The social worker can assist with assessment and referrals to appropriate agencies for entitlements such as social security, Medicaid, PerformCare and The Catastrophic Illness In Children Relief Fund. Short-term counseling is also available along with referrals for individual, family and group therapy.
To further facilitate student and family support, we offer the following programs:

Assistive Technology: Our Assistive Technology program consists of state-of-the-art computers with adaptive software as well as high and low-tech communication devices. We also utilize a variety of switches to access these devices. Smartboard technology, ipads and touchscreens are part of our every-day at both campuses!
Nutritional Clinic: A registered dietician meets with parents and the school team to create an individual diet plan to meet the needs of each student.
Adapted Physical Education: The Adapted Physical Education (APE) Program was developed to provide a stimulating, educational and safe environment for all students while introducing various movements and games to assist in the achievement of individual goals.
MOVE Program:
Learn Together (Fair Lawn Campus):
Ballet/Dance Program: Therapist facilitated sensorimotor activity. Lynn, Laura, PLEASE ENHANCE WITH A SENTENCE OR TWO…
Yoga Program: Yoga has become part of our daily curriculum! Research has demonstrated the many benefits of introducing yoga practice to children with developmental challenges.
Adaptive Horseback Riding: Special Adaptive Swim: Similar to aqua therapy, the adaptive swim program is held at the Ridgewood YWCA and involves performing exercises in the water. It is wonderful for children with various types of developmental or physical disabilities.
Special Adaptive Swim: Swimming can be a great activity, as it offers support to the entire body, and allowing children that may find moving on land painful and awkward the opportunity to move more freely and easily and it’s fun!
Music Program:
Horticulture: At Midland Park, in our new horticulture program (bi-weekly sessions for each class), the children can experience nature through hands-on interactions that stimulate the senses and encourage movement and communication.
Martial Arts:
With a bloodcurdling cry, your 6-year-old leaps into the air in a karate kick, raising your hair and blood pressure simultaneously. Before you panic and pad the walls, try channeling this urge into a martial arts class.
Community Based Instruction Program:
Institute staff contract with local school districts to provide students with meaningful, age-appropriate community opportunities. Our staff focus on generalizing transferable skills initially taught in the classroom to practicing these skills in integrated “real-life” community settings.
