Program Descriptions

Social Work Picnic:
A kickoff to our 2019-2020 school year. CTC students and staff along with their families are invited to a day filled with food, fun and music! This event will be held at the Oakland Elks from 12:00-3:00pm.
Grandparents’/Special Persons’ Day:
CTC grandparents/special persons are invited to spend time with their loved one at school and participate in an activity in the classroom. The Oakland campus will be having this event on two days based on grade span. Light refreshments will be served. This event is held from 10:00-11:30am.
Parent/Guardian’s Time Out:
On this night, we welcome all parents to come out and enjoy dinner together as we welcome each other back to a new school year.
Mom’s Time Out:
This group is designed to give mothers of children with special needs the opportunity to connect with other mothers who understand. Mom’s Time Out features a series of evenings where mothers participate in activities, share information and resources, offer emotional support, and discuss their unique experiences. The evening groups are held from 7:00- 9:00pm and the day groups are held from 10:00-11:00am.
Family Fun Nights:
: Family Fun Nights allow for our CTC families to connect and get together while participating in fun activities. The entire family is invited to attend these various fun filled events from 6:30-8:30pm.

 

 

Parent Education Series

 

Guardianship and Post-21 Options for your Child:
Join us for this two part education night. First we will hear from Deb Guston, Esq as she discusses the guardianship process, what to expect, and how to prepare to file for guardianship. Then we will hear from Christine Meyer from Compassionate Care Support Coordination Agency as she discusses the role of the support coordinator in planning for post-21services, how to use your child’s DDD budget, and potential post-21 options available.
Special Needs Parenting:
Jamie Coyne, MSW, LSCW will lead a discussion on special needs parenting. She will include topics such as: burnout, the pressures of parenting, mental health and self-care.
Grief Speaks:
Lisa Athens, MA, grief specialist and national speaker, will discuss coping with stress and grief as a family. The discussion will include how each person can cope differently and have different needs during the grief process.
