CTC Academy Mourns the Loss of Retired Board Member Mary Ellen Rohon

CTC Academy is deeply saddened by the passing of longtime board member Mary Ellen Rohon, whose decades of dedicated service left an indelible mark on our community.
Mary Ellen first became involved with CTC Academy when it was a small physical therapy center in Ridgewood. Her son, who is now 52 years old, attended the program from the age of seven until he was 16. Seeing firsthand the profound impact of CTC, she joined the Board of Directors approximately 30 years ago.
Mary Ellen was a passionate advocate for CTC’s mission and believed deeply in the power of community among parents of children with disabilities. She often shared how CTC provided a unique space where families could connect, support each other, and form lifelong friendships—something not always possible when a child doesn’t attend the local school. She encouraged fellow parents to “hang in there,” recognizing the challenges they faced but also the strength they found in one another.
Her commitment to CTC Academy was unwavering. She frequently praised the dedication of board members, staff, and families, urging them to continue serving with the same enthusiasm
and engagement that made the organization so special. “This is the best board I’ve ever been a part of,” she once said, acknowledging the active participation of its members.
In recognition of her retirement from the board, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy honored her with a congratulatory letter, stating:
“As you reminisce about your career, you can be proud of the respect and admiration you have earned throughout your thirty years of public service. New Jersey is fortunate to have benefitted from the dedication of civil servants like you. I join with your family, friends, and colleagues in applauding your commitment to the residents of New Jersey and thank you for a job well done.”
CTC Academy also expressed its gratitude in a heartfelt letter, reading:
“We are grateful for your dedication throughout the years and are so glad to have shared such wonderful memories with one of our dearest friends.”
Mary Ellen’s legacy of compassion, advocacy, and commitment will forever be a part of CTC Academy. We extend our deepest condolences to her family and all those whose lives she touched.
